Mark has been a manufacturers’ representative for over thirty years.
He started on the road with JH Sutcliffe back in the eighties, and was quickly head-hunted to join Cintique, spending the next decade building the company's most successful area with quality independent retailers.
That led to an invitation to join Christie Tyler and manage an area turning over in excess of £5m split between group stores and independents. After five years with CT, Mark joined the Mansion House Bedding Group, where he doubled the revenue of his area in the first twelve months. Subsequently, he also expanded his depth of product knowledge and customer base into the contract and hospitality market.
Mark was recommended by many retailers to join the Dreamworks Beds sales team. Once again, he grew the area year on year in terms of both turnover and profit. 2015 saw Dreamworks Beds acquired by Gallery Direct, and Mark was key in overseeing the transition of the bed company into the new parent company. Gallery afforded Mark the opportunity to increase his knowledge into the product groups of cabinet goods, accessories, and other homeware items such as clocks, lighting and mirrors.
Having acquired this in-depth knowledge of the bedding and furniture industry, Mark created MJK Agencies in 2020, focusing on providing products, services and staff training. His approach goes back to the advice Mark was given by a colleague on his very first day on the road: “always treat the retailer as your customer, and not as that of the manufacturer”.
Away from business Mark can be found relaxing on his road bike, or not relaxing watching Charlton Athletic. Mark has been married for over thirty years, and has two adult daughters.
